Write for us
We welcome pitches that make a precise, well-supported connection between food and place, without reducing a region to a single dish or leaning on easy claims of authenticity.
What to pitch
Propose a focused story about an ingredient, market, maker, food custom or gathering. Explain the central question, why it matters to readers, what sources or material would support it, and what makes your angle distinct from a general overview.
What makes a strong contribution
Good pitches are specific, clear about what is known and what remains uncertain, and attentive to differences within a place. We welcome accessible explanations and thoughtful comparisons; unsupported origin stories, promotional copy and sweeping claims about regional identity are not a fit.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page to send your pitch. Include a short outline and any relevant experience or source material, but do not send confidential information or assume that submission guarantees publication. We will consider proposals on their merits.
Place changes the meaning of food
A local dish is more than an ingredient list. Its meaning comes from where its ingredients come from, who makes it and how people choose to share it.
